Little M update

One fine Sunday we experienced a momentary burst of inspiration and decided to paint the student flat ... Michaela demonstrates how its done and checks to make sure she hasn't missed a spot!

Michaela has recently learned to "Smile!" for the camera ... She loves to show her pearly whites and keeps one eye open just to make sure she's aiming that gorgeous grin in the right direction! Here are some recent favourites ...

Poor Jeremy Fisher ...

Two of Michaela's favourite friends are Peter Rabbit and Mr Jeremy Fisher. Peter Rabbit sleeps in her bed with her and gives Mom and Dad kisses before bed too. Lately Michaela has been worried that her dear friend, Mr Jeremy Fisher, is not eating enough so she sits him down and feeds him some of her cereal or biscuit or even a bit of banana ...

Today she decided that no matter what, he was going to eat that Oatee ...

The Darnall Diaries ...

News from the home front is that Mom and Dad Rapson have moved in and are getting settled. Michaela and I drove up to see the new house and to help out a bit with the moving.

The house is so typically a 1970s company house that walking in is deja vu and brings back memories of Armstrong Avenue ... long passages, parque floors, big bedrooms - even the lights are the same!

Michaela thought moving was the most fun ever. She packed and unpacked an ice-cream tub of wire egg cups in every room and was quite proud of her contribution to the move. She was thoroughly entertained by the monkeys that raided the kitchen in the afternoon and though Granny's attempts to scare them off with a Boo! were hysterical.

The new house lends itself to displaying the wonderful pieces of art Mom and Dad have collected over their 33 (yes finally it is REALLY 33) years of marriage. By the time we left the lounge was looking fit to grace the cover of Garden & Home.

The verdict: its definitely a Rapson-type family home and I can't wait for the next family gathering where its stuffed to the gunnels with the latest add-on sleeping on the floor somewhere. I see sundowners of the stoep and pitter-pattering of little feet down the long passage, kob chickens on Sundays and 10 people round a 6 seater dining table. The only question is ... where to find a Christmas tree???

Michaela's photo album

Michaela has the fortune (or misfortune) of having a father who would probably volunteer to be the first person to have a camera surgically grafted to a limb! Here are a few pics taken over the last few weeks.

Next stop .... Hollywood!

Outside looking in ... inside looking out ...

The Easter bunny was here ...

Just returned (sans baby) from a wonderful weekend with family... started off with a much-anticipated visit from Teej and her fabulous cousin. Newly arrived from a chilly UK, they braved two days of Durban autumn and it was wonderful! Definitely planning a trip north one of these days ...

On Saturday morning we woke at 3:30am to get to Pongola by breakfast time. A bittersweet trip knowing that this is the last time that the whole family would be there together but a happy occassion too because the folks are moving onto bigger and better things - and close enough to babysit :) Our little girl had her first haircut which was a proud and scary moment but thankfully no ears or fingers were lost in the process. She loved the mirrors at the hairdressers as you can see.

We had late night easter egg hunt on Saturday night which made us all feel just a little younger. Amazing what a few glow-in-the-dark eggs can do! Michaela was dressed in her finest for the last church service my folks were giving - after nearly a dozen years there were more than a few tears shed and it was wonderful that we could be there as a family. Muffet thought collecting easter eggs was the best fun even though she never cottoned on to the fact that there was chocolate in the brightly coloured wrappers (definitely a good thing considering the sugar high she had anyway).

Michaela is spending her first week by herself with her grandparents. Apparently she's having an absolute ball and not missing us one bit. I, on the other hand, am counting the hours ...

Looking forward to the next family gathering and hoping it won't be too long from now.
